A lifetime in the making… The Saloon Ensemble and Steven Schpeilberg bring you the never-before-seen Director’s Cut!
Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the theater… It’s “J.A.W.Z. THE MUSICAL – IN 3D!” – a two-act musical comedy written, directed, arranged, and performed live by ThE SaLOOn EnSeMbLe in HIGHLY REALISTIC 3-D at the vintage Clinton St. Theater.
Portland’s performance troupe The Saloon Ensemble (featuring members of MarchFourth Marching Band, Trashcan Joe, Simple Matters, The Ukeladies, and Sweet Juice) has been entertaining audiences since 2005 with highly theatrical, danceable, and unique renditions of pop songs and their own outrageous originals at various local venues, Oregon Country Fair, Burning Man, and epic-theme parties of their own creation.
Starting in January of 2013 following their remarkable hit production of “The Nightmare Before Xmas,” the group gathered in the living room to study the movie “Jaws”; an all-time favorite of their film-geek band-leader Jason Wells who for decades had always wanted to turn it into a musical.
Starting with a basic sketch, the core group of seven musicians teamed-up with four additional actors and studied the film scene by scene, discussing all of the story’s key elements. What followed was a joyous and seemingly endless flooding of hilarious ideas until March when they printed a finalized script, recorded a completed score, and officially booked it at Portland’s legendary Clinton St. Theater for a summer blockbuster/
Now, after six months of rehearsals, costumes, props, choreography, arranging, editing, and memorizing their lines, The Saloon Ensemble is proud to present this all-original, multi-dimensional, sing-a-long-able, live musical-comedy which, though it follows the basic Peter Benchley story to satisfy die-hard fans, takes many unexpected twists and turns for a unique, hysterical, and absurd experience of this legendary shark tale.
Featuring Woodie Allen as The Shark, Rob Sams as The Everyman, Noah Veil as The Nerd, Richard Cawley as the Pirate, Mike Danner as The Accordion Player, Andy ShapirBro as Steven Schpeilberg, Stacey Daisy as “Duuuh-Dum,” Teresa Boyd as Celyne Dion, Martina Oskarsson as The Wife, Aspen Walker as The Mayor, Laura Sams as Ariel, and Chris Herring as Himself.
Music includes such original soon-to-be-hits as “Bigger Boat,” “The Great White Shark Song,” “And So I Eat,” “West Shark Story,” “Shark Lullaby,” “Island Town,” and many others… Special appearance by Celyne Dion.
Lighting design, sound, and video art projection by Chris “Fish” Herring.
